Bistro Jeanty

One of the benefits of living near Napa Valley is visiting all of the wonderful restaurants. So far we have hit the jackpot. Tonight we hooked up with our friends for dinner at Bistro Jeanty in Yountville. It may look like we ordered everything on the menu, but we did share and split food.

We started with baked Camembert. It was very simple and very good. It was baked it in it’s own container and served with some toasted bread and a very tasty salad.

The tomato soup in puff pastry was a hit as well as the roasted beet salad. I love the classics, so I ordered the rabbit pate’ with cornichons (little pickles). The pate’ was a perfect consistency with a very mild flavor. I think next time I will try the country pate’ with veal, pork, chicken livers, etc…

Lamb is one of my favorite meats, so serving it with au gratin potatoes and haricot verts (French green beans) was a no brainer for me. I think the US has some of the best lamb ever, but if restaurants don’t have domestic lamb on the menu, Australian lamb is a perfect runner up which is what I had tonight. I tried a bite of scallops, which had a great presentation, and Mitzi’s slow-roasted pork was very tender.

I don’t eat a lot of dessert (some people may say “yea-right” about now), but you don’t have to twist my arm too far when they sound amazing. Tonight, they sounded amazing. We had a nice coffee with our chocolate crème brûlée and house made tangerine and dark-chocolate sorbets.

We finished off the wonderful dinner with friends with a nice stroll through Yountville.
